"I enjoy working with people of all abilities and ages.  Hands-on training in advocacy, social thinking, leadership, strategic-planning and other topics helps individuals find their unique voices.  I am excited to see such joy and fun as people begin to believe in their dreams and set goals to reach them! They can create a future for themselves and expect a fulfilling life."

In her position with the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities at UNC, Deb directs Project STIR (Steps Toward Independence and Responsibility).  She promotes self-advocacy and leadership for youths and young adults with developmental disabilities (DD), including those on the autism spectrum.  Deb cofacilitates the NC Postsecondary Education (PSE) Alliance to expand PSE opportunities for students with DD, including autism.  She participates on the state transition team through the NC Department of Public Instruction and presents at local, state, and national conferences on transition issues.
