About STAGES Coaching…

I have participated in therapy from time to time over the years. How is coaching different from therapy?

Therapy, counseling, and related services address emotional, psychological, and/or psychiatric issues. Coaching addresses the learning, planning, and strategic processes we need to reach goals, so it is a different process. Coaching supports you to identify specific life goals and reach them.

Coaching can also complement your work with a therapist so that you can optimally benefit from treatment. You may need new learning strategies, organizational tools, time-management techniques, and other ways to better manage your life.

What can I expect from working with STAGES Coaching?

STAGES Coaching begins with identifying your goals and assessing a starting point. Then we set a realistic and practical plan, including putting you in touch with resources. This focus, structure, and support keeps you moving forward.

Instead of only hour-long office sessions, a coaching format is more flexible, offering different options for ongoing contact. Meetings take place in the home, community, or via Zoom, customized for your needs and location.

How is STAGES Coaching different from other life coaching?

STAGES Coaching applies hands-on approaches that match your learning styles, interests, strengths, and needs. Practical activities can accelerate your progress and reinforce your sense of accomplishment. The STAGES Transition Springboard™ offers a new perspective on the many essential areas of your life and the support to embrace something new:
a. Plan it: Plan steps and create a timeline. Get organized and find information and resources.

b. Say it: Speak up about your plans and goals to keep them in focus.

c. Feel it: Emotions are involved in any new step. Name yours and learn ways to manage them.

d. Try it: Practicing your planned step can include "rehearsal" for the workplace or other settings.

e. Do it: You are ready for success and feel confident in reaching this goal.

Why is "rehearsal for life/workplace" an important tool for STAGES Coaching?

Small focused steps along with the opportunity to practice new behaviors and decision-making can reduce anxiety and uncertainty. Many people learn best by doing and rehearsal for life provides a practice opportunity -- for example, you have an upcoming job interview. This also addresses the emotional component of a new challenge or behavior. STAGES Coaching can include concrete, hands-on learning to practice new skills so that you gain experience and confidence toward embracing a new challenge.

Why should I consider STAGES Coaching now?

You may be losing valuable time and energy attempting to navigate a complex stage of your life. What used to work for you may no longer provide what you need. You want your time and effort to be as effective as possible. Or you have many ideas for next steps and you are pondering where to begin. Sharing the responsibility with a coach can make the process less stressful with more satisfying results. STAGES Coaching helps identify resources and other options, too, for setting goals and identifying skills you need to reach them.
